A Benediction

We dream of one another in the dark–

like fists, we clench our bodies in the sheets–

O Lord, may you release us from our hearts.

Who knew one errant kiss would tear apart

a stable house or two– we fall asleep,

we dream of one another in the dark,

our bodies drifting in the fated arcs

of fallen angels and misguided Greeks–

O Lord, may you release us from our hearts,

and in this late December night impart

a universe or two. We fall asleep,

we dream of one another in the dark

and suffer for the light of just one star

among the multitude. There is no peace.

O Lord, may you release us from our hearts,

our bodies drifting in the fated arcs

of fallen angels and misguided Greeks.

We dream of one another in the dark–

O Lord, may you release us from our hearts.
